Verdi/Wagner Daytime Events 7 | 8 | 9 September

Gandini Juggling

Paul Hamlyn Hall | Gandini Juggling’s wildly original take on Die Walküre; a potted version of Wagner’s Ring Cycle with little more than his hands from theatre artist Andrew Dawson; comedy dance duo New Art Club, aka Roden and Shenton, present their own interpretation of Verdi operas; and Royal Ballet Choreographic Affiliate Mayuri Boonham will also perform new work created especially for this year’s festival. Throughout Sunday 8 September there will be musical interventions from jazz composer and pianist Julian Joseph too.

Clore Studio | Special percussion and singing workshops for families based on the Anvil Chorus from Verdi’s Il trovatore and more anvil-based percussion from Wagner’s Das Rheingold.

Crush Room | In January 2013, ROH and composer Elspeth Brooke asked people to contribute recordings of themselves singing Verdi’s well-loved chorus ‘Va pensiero’, from Nabucco. The resulting installation is an imaginative response to ‘Va pensiero’ involving many different voices, from young to old, untrained individual to opera chorus; it includes everyone from staff at the Royal Opera House and members of the March 2013 Nabucco audience, to people from all over the globe.
